How much power do you need?

The majority of all campervans have a leisure battery in the rear. This will run your fridge, water pump, lighting and other 12V accessories. Usually this will allow you to be off-grid for two to three days. To extend this time off grid, you might want to consider having a solar panel fitted. Not only will this top up your battery when you are not plugged into mains electricity, but it will also trickle charge your leisure battery and keep it conditioned when you are not using the van.

Bike racks, towing and additional storage

A bike rack is a very common accessory. Most bike racks will attach to the rear of the van and can hold up to four bikes and up to 60kg. Bear in mind that if you only have two bikes you can use the other space to carry luggage.

Tow bars are also a popular accessory. Not only can you tow a small trailer with it, but bike racks fitted to tow bars are now very popular. These can be professionally fitted with 13 pin electrics, and can integrate fully with the vehicles existing safety and lighting syetems.

Driving aids – making it easier to drive a van

For some people driving a van can be a bit daunting at first (it’s actually far easier than most people think, as your visibility is great, and it’s not much longer than an estate car).
Even so, people often think about a reversing camera to compliment the parking sensors fitted to most modern vans. If your vehicle hasn’t got a reversing camera, this is quite straightforward to retrofit and this can be integrated fully with the media system.

Extend your interior camper space

One of the most common accessories we fit is a wind-out sunshade. This is simply an awning which rolls out from the side of the van and has two legs to support it. In bright sunshine, or in light rain, this is a very useful shelter which is in place in under a minute.
It also has an awning rail integrated into it, so if you wanted to attach a full awning tent to the side of your van, then this can be done as well.

Styling and upgrading the exterior of your van

A simple way to change the look of your van is to change the wheels. Here at Moorlake, we generally fit 20 inch wheels to most of our vans. This is purely cosmetic, and it does make the vans look a lot smarter in our opinion. However, there is a huge range of wheels available for most vans and you can choose the style and size that you want.

You might want to make your van look a bit more sporty by adding a rear spoiler, a front spoiler, side bars, and various bits of trim. The market for these is varied and there are lots of different options available, please feel free to ask us and we can point you in the right direction.

Upgrade your interior

Many campervans will have a passenger seat which swivels round to face the interior of the van. This is also possible to do on the driver’s seat, which then gives you four seats inside the van facing each other for meal times or a game of cards.

What about a shower point at the rear of the van? Some vans will have these already fitted, and they are very useful for washing off muddy boots or muddy paws. Aftermarket kits are also available and again these come in different levels of usability and budgets.

Other things you will need for any campervan would include a mattress topper for your bed downstairs, window shades for the front windows (to block out light and keep the warmth in), an electric cable, and then whatever you need in terms of your kitchen equipment (kettle, pots and pans, cutlery, etc.)
